Well we made the trip to and from Columbus; what should have been a thirteen hour drive (with potty breaks) turned into seventeen hours each way. SEVENTEEN HOURS!!! Why did it take so long? Well, because I love you guys and think of you often I took my camera along just so I could share with you a photo or two of holiday traffic.
In February of this year Atlanta was deemed having the worst traffic in the country; here is why:
This is our trip up to Columbus. Between Macon and Atlanta this is what the traffic looked like. This is a 95 mile distance that took between three and four hours. It usually only takes me just over an hour. Not this past weekend:

This is one of the reasons for the hold ups:
This is our trip back:
We finally got off just south of Atlanta (you can see the split highways here) and took the back roads home. It may have taken a bit longer but at least we were moving!
Any road trip horror stories you’d like to share?
UPDATE.....
This is what I am used to driving on:

Oh, that looks like I90/94 anywhere north of the Illinois border and south of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. On ANY weekend.
Looks like everyday traffic here in the Bay Area.
I'd prefer not to relive the horror. Being from SoCal traffic like that isn't unusual for me, but the scariest traffic I ever encountered was when I lived in Florida. The traffic there isn't nearly as heavy, but the people drive like they've got a death wish. People say we Californians are crazy drivers, but the Floridians are FAR worse.
Yeah. Atlanta sucks for traffic.
*hands over bazooka and forklift attachments for her car*
that outta help.
Yep, looks like my commute.
L.A. is pretty terrifying at times, but the scariest traffic I ever was in was Boston. They don't know what lanes are up there, I swear to god.
The bottom photo looks more like my drives. Not that I work, mind you!
This is your official summon to my blog for the Tue post. It is imperative that you support me in my time of need. Gnomes everywhere look to you to save them...
That's what the drive is like from here and back to Chicago, where I go to see real museums, great zoos and concerts, and actual major league ball games. *sigh*
But I'm just about at the point where taking the train in seems like a much better idea.
Everybody like to go for holiday trip during vacations.
I hate traffic!!!! It makes me say bad things to the people on the road and the people in my car! I have gotten worse as I have gotten older as well! GRRRRR!
Where you live and the conditions that you usually drive in are truly the way to go.
I know those roads very well! I am so very thankful I do not have to travel them any longer! I-16 is juuussst right for me...I-75 can kiss my booty!
SEVENTEEN HOURS!?! Are you kidding??? I would have started shooting up all the cars around like Thelma and Louise after about 8 hours. You are much more patient than I am...
Glad to see you made it back with your sanity in tact, or did you? ;-)
I live in Los Angeles, where do I begin? Those pictures are just your average day on the 101 freeway on a SUNDAY
Ah traffic! What would life be without road rage?
Every state needs their own "Big Dig" to eliminate most of the traffic.
Problem is ... It took Boston 14 years to complete our "Big Dig".
I never thought I'd see the end of it.
I lived in Atlanta and can certainly sympathize with you. The roads and the drivers suck the big one!
Glad you made it to and from safe and sound!
I avoid Atlanta (ech, blast the airport) at all costs.
